We headed down to Fish Lake following the funeral and as always have a great time. Yes, it is the lake of Fish and the kids each found success with their poles this year. Pictures and pictures to prove their fish tales and I will really try to limit them here.
This was Kelsey’s 2nd year getting up for the early morning fishing. I was secretly proud of her, but there was no way you’d get me out there at that hour! Here is her and Chandler getting a quick bowl of cereal before dressing warm and heading out on the lake.
O.K., is it plain to see that the mother did not get up with the daughter this a.m. and pull her hair into a pony tail? I have no idea how she can even see her fish through the hair to hold it for the camera! Nice fish Kelsey!
Chandler and Brenden were equally as successful and caught some monster fish. We were missing Linzie this trip as she had basketball practice and couldn’t miss. Grandpa is always content to just drive the boat (I think it is his way of getting out of baiting hooks and untangling lines) and oh thank you, finally a picture of Kelsey without a face full of hair!
Everyone made it back to the cabin to show off their big catch and Spencer was ever so happy to just practice casting his line off the deck. By the way, he is a pretty good caster for his age, his daddy is pretty proud of just how far he can cast that thing.
After the kids returned from fishing, it was clear that Daddy Brian and Grandpa were in need of a nap. So, we gathered the kids and went for a “Hike”…that is if you can call traveling on a level surface a “hike”??? It took a little extra encouragement to get Spencer to walk all the way to Lakeside Marina, but the other kids did great. We stopped a bit to skip rocks and Uncle Scott is a pro! In the end, a popsicle or Sprite if you are Spencer is a well deserved reward and all kids are super happy until they realize that they now must hike all the way back. I’m pretty sure Spencer took that the hardest. He had the best of time using Uncle Scott’s camera to take lots and lots of pictures and even learned how to hold it without putting his finger over the lens. Big deal for that little puppy!
How to describe the photo that follows…Hmmm??? How can you condense a 3 hour ordeal in a matter of a blog post? How do you explain the sunburned face of your 9 year old? How do you express thanks to those who heard your screams? Hmmm??? Let’s just say our little 1 lap around the lake for a little boat ride turned into a 3 hour ordeal of being stranded on the lake with a boat that ran out of gas. Somehow the rental boat’s gas tank did not get filled the night before by the staff at the lodge. We screamed, we prayed, we tried rowing with one ore, we waved towels, blankets, and arms. We had no water, no sunscreen, no snacks or food. We had no reserve tank, no blow horn, no NOTHING!!! Finally, 1 of 3 boats on the lake heard our screams and decided we were more than just a “Party Barge”…..Yes, there is more to this story, but the end result, we were rescued, we were grateful, and Kelsey acquired a few more freckles that day along with a very red face. We will chalk this up to another memory at Fish Lake that will be talked about for many years to come!
The best way to end the day at Fish Lake is to head over to Twin Creek for an evening of making smores. Yep, something's are tradition and the kids won’t let you forget this one each night. No matter how tired you are, you must!
Spencer had the best time with Uncle Scott learning how to put the fire out! He was in heaven getting to fill up the water bottle and pore it on the ashes. Thanks Uncle Scott, super fun!
